Main duties of the job
This is a key post for the Health Board providing clinical direction, advice and leadership.
Particular key responsibilities will be:
- As an Executive Director of the Board, ensure that the Board can deliver the agreed strategic ambitions and objectives and to work as a member of the unitary board.
- To provide strong and visible professional leadership and ensure the statutory regulation and supervision for all Nurses, Midwives and Specialist Community Public Health Nurses and to those staff groups to whom aspects of nursing care are delegated, such as Healthcare Support Workers, ensuring the highest quality of care for our patients and the highest professional standards from the professions.
- Provide executive leadership for an integrated system of clinical governance and quality, ensuring robust policies, processes, reporting and assurance mechanisms are in place to meet statutory, professional and organisational requirements. Promote a culture where quality, safety and continuous learning are embedded across services.

- Current registration as a nurse, midwife or SCPHN with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- Evidence of Management and Leadership Development.
- Evidence of Continual Professional Development.
- Educated to Master’s Degree level.
Experience & Knowledge

- Experience of operating effectively at a senior strategic level within a health commissioning or providing organisation.
- Proven experience of working and contributing at Board level at scale.
- Significant management and professional experience.
- Extensive experience of collaborating effectively with other statutory, Independent and Third Sector organisations to plan and deliver services.
- Extensive change management experience.
- Experience of strategic planning and development.
- Evidence of actively participating in service improvement and efficiency.
- Experience of building personal and professional credibility with Board, management and clinical teams and staff.
- Extensive knowledge of the professional nursing and midwifery agenda across primary, community and secondary care.
- Extensive knowledge of clinical and corporate governance and the application across the health service.
- Extensive knowledge of the complex system in which the NHS operates and the impact of statutory and non-statutory public and private sector activities upon health and health care.
- Extensive knowledge of the relationships between workforce planning, workforce development and education.
- In depth understanding of the challenges facing the health service in Wales in the 21st Century.
- In depth knowledge of factors which influence the health-related behaviours of individuals and populations.
- Experience with dealing with the media in a variety of forms.
