Job overview
Full time Specialist grade post in dermatology for BCUHB , with the post based in Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The post holder will undertake the full range of general dermatology duties, including being part of a 09:00am to 17:00pm on call rota, for acute dermatology cases in both adults and Children.
Main duties of the job
As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board’s patients.
Providing clinical care and expertise within the speciality of Dermatology, managing the full range of presentations within this area of practice, initiating an appropriate management plan, reviewing and adjusting dependent on the outcomes of treatment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Specialist in Dermatology is a new role within the Department, working autonomously and independently to a high level of specialist knowledge and expertise within agreed lines of responsibility within the provisions of Betsi Cadwaladr’s autonomous Practice policy.
Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:
To provide effective leadership to all staff within the speciality
To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board’s procedures and operating policies
To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Division’s and Health Board’s service plans
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Relevant Higher Degree e.g. MD; PhD; MSc, CESR/on specialist register
- You must have completed at least 12 years of medical work (either continuous period or together) since gaining a basic medical qualification
- At least 6 years should have been in a relevant speciality in the Specialist Doctor and/or closed SAS degrees OR equivalent years of experience in a relevant speciality of other medical degrees including from overseas
- Valid Certified Basic Life Support Skills (or international equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Applicable Advanced Degree eg MD; PhD; MSc, CESR/on specialist register
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Broad based experience in dermatology
- Meet the requirement of the GMC’s “Good Medical Practice
- Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
- Evidence of ability to clinically evaluate and manage a patient, formulating a prioritised differential diagnosis, initiating an appropriate management plan
- Evidence of managing difficulties of dealing with complexity and uncertainty in the care of patients
- Demonstrates specific skills in management of patients with palliative and end of life care issues, complex symptom management
Desirable criteria
- Experience of NHS
- Wider experience, research and training in dermatology
- Evidence of above average performance
Clinical governance
Essential criteria
- Comprehension of core philosophy and building blocks of Clinical Governance
- Evidence of implementing quality improvement
- Evidence of collaborating with multidisciplinary and interprofessional teams.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of risk management
