We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team in the Clinical Biochemistry Department of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. You should have completed or be very near to completion of formal preregistration STP training. Ideally you will have or be very close to obtaining registration as a Clinical Scientist with the HCPC.

The successful applicant will become part of our dynamic clinical team of Clinical Scientists and Consultant Clinical Scientists. The role will include participation in both the Duty Biochemist rota, and the Duty Manual rota alongside input into service development, quality management, clinical audit and Multi-Disciplinary Team Meeting (MDT) attendance. There are regular journal clubs and weekly clinical case meetings that all Clinical Scientists attend to support training towards obtaining FRCPath. The trust has brilliant leadership development programmes and a QI academy, participation in both will be supported. We are part of the Southern Counties Pathology Network (SCP), where we benefit from clinical and professional interactions.

Full participation in the general Duty Biochemist rota covering all aspects of clinical biochemistry and immunology. This includes interpretation of highly complex results, reporting and adding interpretative comments with implementation of further investigations and timely communication/discussion of abnormal results.
Provision of a wide-ranging interpretative and advisory service to clinical and nursing staff.
To provide scientific support to general, specialists and POCT aspects of the service, developing knowledge of the analytical techniques used in these areas.
To assist in development, evaluation and acceptance of any proposed changes in laboratory and POCT analytical procedures and practice.

- Wide-ranging practical experience in manual and automated techniques of analytical biochemistry
- Experience in the interpretation of a wide range of clinical biochemistry results

- Ability to evaluate complex biochemical information in all aspects of clinical biochemistry
- Ability to understand & perform to a high standard, clinical & analytical tasks according to the needs of the department
- Ability to communicate verbally & in writing complex scientific information with both specialist & no-specialist staff; this includes skills to provide & receive complex data where some degree of analytical discussion &/or negotiation may be required.
