Job overview
The Ward housekeeper will work as an essential part of the ward team under the direction/guidance of the Clinical Matron or his/her nominated deputy. The focus of the role is to support the nursing team with non-clinical tasks, co-ordinate the provision of meals and help maintain a safe, clean, comfortable environment for patients, maintaining the smooth day to day running of the ward.
Main duties of the job
- Being courteous and helpful to patients, families, colleagues and all users and visitors to the ward.
- Welcome patients to the ward in a friendly, professional manner.
- Orientating them and their families to the ward and hospital where necessary.
- Provide accurate and timely information to patients regarding ward routines i.e. visiting times, meal times.
- Provide additional refreshments to patients and families where appropriate.
- Answer telephone.
- Make telephone calls to patients regarding admission or cancellation as directed by nurse in charge.
- Support ward team by underlying tasks to enhance patient care i.e. collection of laundry, pharmacy, etc.
- Ensuring the bed space is prepared for the arrival of a new admission to the ward i.e. checking the area is clean, rubbish removed etc.
- Alert nurse in charge to aspects of dissatisfaction from patients i.e. complaints.
- Provide assistance to patients using the telephone.
- Support completion of Friends and Family cards on discharge.
- Check drug fridge temperature daily and record.
