Job overview

Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a full or part-time Orthotist to join our busy and experienced orthotic practice which provides orthotic clinical services to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (BNHH), Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH), Winchester, Andover War Memorial Hospital (AWMH), Alton Community and special need schools in the area. HHFT offers an opportunity for career development in orthotic speciality clinics supported by a highly experienced and knowledgeable team of Orthotists.

Within this professional and friendly environment there is an excellent opportunity to work as part of a well-established multi-disciplinary therapy team. 

New Graduates should be encouraged to apply for the position as we are able to offer preceptorship, together with ongoing support and mentoring to rapidly develop individual clinical knowledge and skills. All applicants will be required to demonstrate a good understanding of the principles and practice of orthotics.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be encouraged to work as an autonomous practitioner under the management and guidance of the Orthotic Team/Professional Lead.   This support mechanism will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to further develop and practice their individual clinical skills,  including X-Ray and MRI interpretation to assist with the patient care program.

The Orthotist should have a patient centred approach and be able to manage their own caseload as well as to contribute to the continuing development of the Orthotic Service.

You can expect  an experienced clinical team to provide continued clinical support and mentoring.  Ability to develop your clinical expertise as an autonomous Clinical Orthotist and great opportunities to expand your clinical knowledge and practice techniques. 

Working for our organisation

The orthotic service forms part of our Therapy Services department, which also accommodates MSK physiotherapy, acute therapy services, hand therapy, with dietetics and speech and language therapy. The orthotic service is supported by its own dedicated administration team along with 4 other experienced practising Orthotists and one onsite orthotic technician. The orthotic service area can offer 2 large consultation rooms dedicated clinical cubicle areas, a small workshop and a cast rectification room. There is also access to pressure gait analysis and a large rehabilitation gym. We have recently installed a CADCAM machine.

Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital.   • Registered with the HCPC in prosthetics / orthotics
Desirable criteria
  • recognised post-grad qualification eg MSc
  • member of special interest group

  • Able to present information, written and orally in a clear and logical manner

  • competent IT skills

Experience
