Tobacco Dependency Advisor (TDA)

Band 3

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.

Job overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Tobacco Dependency Advisor (TDA) within Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust.

We are recruiting two positions to support the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan tobacco dependency programme:

  • One post based at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (BNHH)
  • One post based at Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH)

The advisors will form a small team working across the Trust, providing individualised smoking cessation support to inpatients. Main duties of the role will be the setting  up of the new  tobacco dependency service within the Trust  helping smokers to quit when they are admitted to hospital.

We welcome applications from individuals with backgrounds in administration, healthcare support (HCA), or similar roles, who are passionate about improving patient outcomes and keen to develop in a new and rewarding area of care.

Main duties of the job

The primary role of the TDA is to hold conversations with inpatients who smoke, to facilitate smoking cessation. This involves supporting patients to initiate and maintain a quit attempt through a personalised care plan, including advising on the use of nicotine replacement therapy.

The role involves keeping track of referrals using electronic patient records and contributing to data collection. Close liaison with the community stop smoking service, and teamworking with a range of HHFT colleagues, also forms part of the role.

Working for our organisation

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.

We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.
The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors. The Council of Governors represent the interests of their constituencies and influence the future plans of the Foundation Trust.
