Lung Cancer CNS - Band 6

Band 6

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and compassionate nurse with a passion for cancer care to join our dedicated Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team.

We are seeking a motivated Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide expert, holistic, and patient-centred care to individuals diagnosed with or undergoing investigation for lung cancer or mesothelioma. This role is central to delivering the high standards of care that underpin our values and support the overall success of our Trust.

As a key member of the wider lung cancer multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will act as a specialist resource, co-ordinating and facilitating care from referral through diagnosis, treatment, and beyond. You will be instrumental in supporting patients and their families through what can be a challenging time, ensuring continuity, clarity, and compassion at every step.

Although this is the cross site role and there is expectation to work across all sites, however the main base will be Basingstoke.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the lung cancer patient journey is coordinated, evidence-based, and centred around the individual needs and choices of patients.
  • Provide personalised verbal and written information, support, and advice from the point of referral and throughout pre-diagnosis investigations.
  • Support patients and families with sensitive communication before and following a diagnosis of lung cancer or mesothelioma.
  • Undertake and utilise Holistic Needs Assessments to guide supportive interventions and referrals.
  • Advocate for patients when necessary, ensuring their voices are heard across all levels of their care.
  • Assist patients during the decision-making process regarding treatment options, ensuring they are informed and supported.
  • Track patient progress throughout the cancer pathway, liaising effectively across services and professionals to ensure seamless care.

If you are someone who thrives on making a meaningful difference to patients and is ready to contribute to a high-performing, supportive, and innovative team, we would love to hear from you.
