We have a fantastic opportunity for an energetic and dynamic Speech and Language Therapist, to join our team and lead the inpatient service at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.  

This team provides care to adult patients and we are committed to providing a high-quality service. We embrace change in the form of ongoing service development to make sure our patients are getting a modern, evidence based, effective service.

 

Main duties of the job

This post would be working closely with the inpatient lead at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital to ensure equity of care across sites.  Your aim would be to provide quality care at the acute stage of the patient pathway, from critical care to general medical, and elderly care wards. Alongside your role in the operational management of the caseload, you would be providing clinical support for junior members of the team, in person or remotely, on both hospital sites. 

The Speech and Language Therapy team run both Video fluoroscopy and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Examination of Swallowing (FEES ) services which you would take a key role in.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·        Highly skilled practitioner in the comprehensive management of patients with complex communication and EDS needs, especially in the acute setting

·        Management of the inpatient SLT team at BNHH ensuring effective operation of the service on the acute wards including critical care and instrumental assessments

·        Provision of clinical leadership in the acute setting (BNHH and RHCH) for people with communication and EDS needs

Training and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Recognised SLT degree level qualification or equivalent
  • • Registered member of RCSLT
  • • Registered member of HCPC
  • • Continued Professional Development including evidence of reflective practice, in service training and courses attended and clinical governance gained
  • • Post Graduate Courses relevant to adult communication difficulties and EDS
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of attendance of recognised managerial and leadership courses
  • • Evidence of training in FEES and Videofluroscopy
  • • Evidence of training in tracheostomy management

Experience and Knowlegde

Essential criteria
  • • Experience at Band 6 level
  • • Experience of working in acute settings, including critical care
  • • Evidence of CPD in specialist areas
  • • Evidence of implementation of service development
  • • Design and delivery of training programmes
  • • Experience of staff supervision
  • • Awareness of local and national agendas affecting SLT services/profession
  • • Placement Educator experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Previous experience at Band 7 level
  • • Experience of project management and budgetary management
  • • Experience as an interviewer for SLT
  • • Evidence of competency in tracheostomy management
  • • Evidence of competency in use of instrumental assessment (FEES and Videofluroscopy)
  • • Experience of using Quality Improvement (QI) methodology
