Employer heading
Therapy Assistant/Support Worker
Band 3

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.
Job overview
The Countess of Brecknock Hospice provides outstanding palliative care for patients with life limiting illness. We provide multiple services both within our Hospice building and out in our local community, with the aim to provide holistic, patient centred care.
Part of our service includes our Day care service, running from the hospice on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Where up to 10 patients can attend for the day, where they can expect a mixture of social and well being activities as well as having clinical expertise on hand to provide assessment and symptom control, headed up by The Day Care Leader and Therapy Assistants.
The Role of the Therapy assistant within the Countess of Brecknock Day Care Service is to assist and support the qualified health professionals and Clinical Support Workers in ensuring outstanding palliative care for the patients accessing the day care services within the hospice. The delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate health care to the patients of the Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust is the most important objective for the organisation.
Main duties of the job
As a Therapy assistant in Day Care you’ll work under the supervision of a healthcare professional- The Day Centre Leader, supporting them and helping patients with their physical and emotional well being.
We have the training, support, education, and opportunities to help you make the very most of your talent. Whether that means becoming a registered nursing associate, registered nurse, midwife or physiotherapist of the future, or moving into a management role or simply being the best Therapy Assistant you can be.
It’s a hands-on role – one minute you could be taking a set of observations and the next lending an ear to an anxious patient – but it’s one of the most rewarding. Duties include monitoring patients and performing basic observations, planning and managing activities, participating in patient education and exercise classes such as chair yoga, supporting the day care leader with patient assessment and documentation.
Working as a Therapy Assistant is a vital role within the team and if you’re positive, caring and have a can-do attitude – we want you to join us.
Working for our organisation
Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.
Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.
We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.
The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors. The Council of Governors represent the interests of their constituencies and influence the future plans of the Foundation Trust.
