Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Housekeeper to support the team across the Women's Health Unit, to include the Women's Health Unit and the Gynaecology assessment unit. The successful candidate will contribute to patient care by supporting meal ordering, maintaining stock on the ward, some cleaning tasks and assisting with making beds, amongst several other important tasks whilst working alongside the clinical teams.

Main duties of the job

  • Welcome patients to the ward in a friendly, professional manner. Orientating them and their families to the ward and hospital where necessary.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to patients regarding ward routines i.e. visiting times, mealtimes
  • Report any damaged equipment and required maintenance repairs
  • Serving meals and assisting in ensuring patients receive appropriate food
  • Assist patients in the completion of menu choices
  • Arrange, co-ordinate and collect additional food as requested by the patient. 
  • Be responsible for the management and storage of ward food supplies
  • Order non-clinical supplies where necessary.
  • Unpack stocks and supplies.
  • Rotate stock to ensure usage of supplies
  • Ensure regular stock items are available for use and liaise with Supplies and other departments should deficits in supplies occur and also report it to Ward Sister
  • Answer telephone where required.

  • Support ward team by helping with tasks to enhance patient care i.e. collection of laundry, pharmacy, etc.

  • Ensuring the bed space is prepared for the arrival of a new admission to the ward i.e. checking the area is clean, rubbish removed etc.
  • Provide assistance to patients using the telephone or bed side screens.
  • Support completion of Friends and Family cards on discharge.
  • Check all fridge temperatures daily and record.
  • Assist nursing staff with patients who require 1-1 supervision
  • Undertake patient moving and handling training to be able to assist nursing staff in an emergency situation
