Job overview

To be a key part of the Trust wide Alcohol Liaison service, working at an enhanced level undertaking the specialist assessment and bio-psychosocial intervention of those affected by alcohol misuse.

 

The post will work directly with patients who can benefit from alcohol interventions and working with external agencies to identify appropriate onward referral for patients that require specialist alcohol services.

 

The post holder alongside  the Lead Alcohol Nurse will be responsible for the education and sharing of best practice in relation to alcohol misuse and related comorbidities across the trust.

 

Main duties of the job

•          To have a good knowledge and understanding to provide alcohol screening and alcohol brief and extended interventions to an appropriate range of patients

•          Work as part of the wider Trust team to promote services. This includes, specialist mental health services, dementia team, learning disability team, safeguarding etc.

•          Travel and work across all sites in the Trust as the need arises to ensure an appropriate nursing skill mix.

•          To ensure the patient journey is patient centred, evidence based with excellent communication between all those involv

•          Where necessary, or when requested, to act as the patient advocate.

•          To provide individualised, written and verbal, support & advice around alcohol intervention

•          To support patients during consideration of treatment options.

•          To track the patient’s progress across all areas of healthcare, acting as a liaison between healthcare professionals.

•          To provide a point of contact to the MDT for patients.

•          To act as an expert resource to colleagues in evidence-based practice and education and support.

•          To be a source of support, for both patient and carers on psychosocial issues throughout all aspects of diagnosis and treatment, involving other professionals when needed.

Trainging & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse / current NMC registration – or equivalent RMN or RGN
  • Diploma or degree level education or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study, or employment experience
  • Mentorship experience/qualification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience of caring for patients who require alcohol interventions
  • Experience of teaching and mentorship for learners and peers
  • Knowledge of planning/implementing or evaluating change within healthcare
  • Working knowledge of the NHS.

Skills and Ability
