Job overview

SCW requires an experienced and diligent pharmacist, with a desire to work within the NHS, ensuring value for public money and helping to improve outcomes for patients. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic pharmacist to work alongside fellow pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, clinicians and colleagues across SCW. The post holder will input into the development and delivery of clinical services which will make a difference to patients.

Main duties of the job

The role will work with a wide range of stakeholders in health and care to deliver pharmacy and medicines optimisation projects. Experience in variety of settings (e.g., primary care/ secondary/ community/ health and justice) and/ or leadership role is essential. There is also the potential opportunity for the post holder to act as a pharmacy subject matter expert, working on wider SCW projects. The post holder will have in-depth knowledge of NHS initiatives, policy and developments as well as the legal, governance and ethical framework within which pharmacists, primary care organisations, provider trusts, and commissioners work.

The post holder will join the small but expanding Medicines Optimisation team, working with the Clinical Services Programme Lead and members of the Medicines Optimisation team.

 You will be working within a challenging NHS environment and will need to be highly adaptive, flexible, and autonomous.

There are a range of sites within the SCW footprint, and it is possible for the working base for this role to be agreed to suit the ideal candidates. This role is Agile and will be a mix of home working, face-to-face meetings, and site visits. Access to car and the ability to travel between county-wide locations is therefore essential for this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main duties of the post holder include, but not limited to:

  • Deliver, and lead work streams or elements within the medicines optimisation portfolios.
  • Deliver high quality services, ensuring that both commissioned and provider services are founded on established evidence-based and clinically effective care.
  • Provide pharmacy expert advice and project management to assist SCW customers in developing legal, safe, cost-effective, and best value NHS services, with an emphasis on identifying and reducing unwarranted clinical variation and ensuring an effective integration across systems and integrated care models.
  • Ensure that clinical effectiveness and best practice are embedded into planning and transformation of clinical services across SCW.
  • Undertake site visits and face-to-face meetings as required.
  • Communicate and/or present complex clinical and technical information to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Build effective partnership working with internal and external stakeholders.
