Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, innovative and motivated specialist practitioner in infection prevention and control to join our Infection Prevention Team.
This role is important for our patients and staff, with a Trust-wide remit supporting the delivery of the infection prevention and control service with UHS, providing expertise in the prevention, management and control of infection and supporting team and trust objectives by developing and leading projects, initiatives and workstreams to support the prevention and control of infection.
You will work as part of the Infection Prevention Team in the provision of an Infection Prevention and Control Service within UHS. This service incorporates the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection within UHS.
The Infection Prevention team covers services at the main Southampton General Hospital and Princess Anne Hospital Sites, its services within the Royal South Hants Hospital, New Forest Birthing Centre, and Lymington Hospital and to the HIOW air ambulance service. The Trust has clear priorities for improving patient safety and delivering a positive patient experience by reducing healthcare associated infections across the Trust.
This post is advertised as full time but consideration will be give to part time options.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Responsibilities:
As a specialist practitioner in infection prevention & control you will:
- act as the lead specialist responsible for advice on operational aspects of infection prevention within a section of the Trust (large number of wards/departments)
- act as lead specialist for identified infection prevention workstreams/ improvement priorities
-work as part of the Infection Prevention Team in the provision of an Infection Prevention and Control Service within UHS.
-Facilitate and oversee the service on a day-to-day basis through the provision of leadership and support to the band 6 infection prevention practitioners. This will be as part of a rota with our 2 other specialist practitioners.
Experience/skills are needed:
We are looking for a dynamic, motived and enthusiastic individual with specialist knowledge and experience in infection prevention and control who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to influence others and a commitment to lead and drive improvements in IPC practice across the the Trust.
- A registered practitioner, with post registration experience. Recent experience must have been at band 6.
- Recognised specialist post registration qualification/pathway of study in infection prevention & control.
- Recent experience of working in the specialty of Infection Prevention & Control.
- Evidence of recent experience working at an advanced level, e.g. advising and updating clinicians and others involved in patient care
- Recent evidence of change management /quality improvement in practice.
You must be able to participate in the weekend Infection Prevention and Control On-Call rota. This will entail providing specialist telephone advice and attending hospital site as required at daytimes during weekends/bank holidays.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- A registered practitioner (NMC/HCPC), with post registration experience. Recent experience must have been at band 6.
- Degree Level Qualification/study (or equivalent).
- Recognised Specialist post registration qualification/pathway of study in Infection Prevention & Control
- A recognised teaching Certificate
- Masters or equivalent level of relevant experience
- Recent experience of working in the specialty of Infection Prevention & Control
- Evidence of recent experience working at an advanced level, e.g. advising and updating clinicians and others involved in patient care
- Recent evidence of change management /quality improvement in practice
- Evidence of post registration professional development
Desirable criteria
- Membership of professional body, i.e. Infection Prevention Society
