We have an exciting opportunity to work across research and healthcare as our new senior finance manager. Working across the Trust and wider stakeholder network, you will bring your collaborative and partnership-focused finance skills, as the Trust lead on R&D financial management, to deliver a professional, dynamic Research & Development financial management function. You will take responsibility for providing a comprehensive, proactive support service to a range of R&D business units, and work collaboratively with finance colleagues across our strategic partnerships.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
What you’ll do
• You will lead on all R&D income, expenditure and financial matters, with responsibility for the strategic direction of research and development finances across a wide stakeholder network
• Take responsibility for providing comprehensive, proactive financial management support to the R&D Business Units
• Manage internal and external R&D financial relationships with key partners including the University of Southampton, UHS clinical Divisions, IT, Finance and R&D partner organisations
• Manage the R&D finance team and the Wessex Regional Research Hub finance team
What we’re looking for
• You will be a people-focused, fully qualified finance professional, with clear communication skills and experience in financial management and financial strategy
• Working with a range of stakeholders, you will demonstrate a solid understanding of budgetary control processes, budget setting and financial planning, combined with a broad understanding of financial accounting and control issues
• Demonstrable skills and experience in building partnerships and working collegiately across a diverse multi-organisational landscape
• With a supportive and flexible team around you to deliver, you will be able to present and explain financial information in a timely manner that can easily be understood by non-finance colleagues and key system partners
• You will demonstrate our UHS Values: Patients First, Always Improving, Working Together

Qualifications training required
Essential criteria
- CIMA, ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, appropriate degree or equivalent level of training and experience.
- Business management.
- Project management.
- Negotiation skills.
Previous or relevant experience necessary
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
- Financial accounting and management experience.
- Knowledge of data collection for forecasting and planning.
- Significant previous experience in a staff management role.
- Knowledge of designing advanced spreadsheets and databases.
- Experience of Financial project management/Financial appraisal and forecasting.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of NHS Trust Financial processes, NHS structural relationships and the NHS financial regime.
Desirable criteria
- Research financial management, including costing research.
