Main duties of the job
We are looking for a Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Renal Medicine to join our clinical and research teams. You will gain clinical nephrology experience on the ward and in outpatients and carry out crucial roles in clinical research.
The renal service has 5 Consultants seconded from Wessex Kidney Centre, Portsmouth who provide daily ward cover Monday to Friday, supporting a team comprising an FY1, IMT1 or 2, a specialist trainee, and a clinical research fellow.

Your Responsibilities
What you’ll do
• Clinical research – being a sub-investigator for clinical trials at UHS and Dorset County Hospital
• National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Associate Principal Investigator Scheme
• UHS Clinical Research Fellow training Programme
• Inpatient work (renal medicine and GIM)
• Opportunity to gain experience of renal outpatient clinics
• Participation in audit and educational meetings within the department

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).
Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave.
All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.
Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular.
Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)
Basic Salary – MT04 £61,825
Travelling expenses will not be paid for attending interview

Qualifications, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Full MRCP or equivalent
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Successful completion of Core Medical Training or Acute Care Common stem training
- Evidence of willingness to teach students and colleagues
Desirable criteria
- BSc (or other intercalated degree)
- Undergraduate awards
- PhD or MD
- Minimum 1 years’ experience at SpR/STR level in medicine or renal medicine
- Research experience
- Publications in scientific journals
- Presentation at scientific meetings
Aptitudes and skills
Essential criteria

- Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
- Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English).
