Main duties of the job
The role is an exciting opportunity for a medical oncologist with an interest and experience in lung and gynaecological cancers to join an innovative and dynamic team of consultants, specialty doctors and advanced nurse practitioners in the Medical Oncology Service at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) and Isle of Wight (IoW).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
The principal duties of these posts will be to:
• Be a member of the Lung and Gynaecology MDTs
• Participate in the management of patients with Lung Cancer and Gynaecological Cancers
• Attend the Lung and Gynaecology MDT meetings
• Share the Lung and Gynaecology patient referrals
• Provide medical oncology expertise to the Lung and Gynaecology services
• Plan and supervise Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies including chemotherapy and immunotherapy
• Conduct on treatment review clinics
• Supervise care of inpatients
• Engage in peer review meetings
• Participate in the recruitment and running of clinical trials
Clinics will be primarily based at St Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight a 266 bed hospital offering acute medical and surgical care, planned surgery and outpatient services to the population of 140,000. Visiting Oncologists are supported by Tumour site specific Specialist Nurses.
As a University Hospital:
• All consultants are expected to actively participate in teaching and training of junior medical and nursing staff and allied health professionals
• All consultants are expected to clinically supervise junior medical staff
• Involvement in educational supervision is expected, subject to General Medical Council requirements
• Active involvement in co-ordinating education and training within the department is also encouraged
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for dynamic individuals who are keen to work with the team to develop the Lung and Gynaecological oncology services to provide world class care to our patients.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Individuals wishing to apply must be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).
The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.

Qualifications and training
Essential criteria
- GMC Registration
- MRCP or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Recognised training in academic oncology with postgraduate qualification
- CCT in Medical Oncology (or within 6 months of CCT date) or appropriate qualifications and experience to allow entry on to the Specialist Register
Previous or relevant experience
Essential criteria
- Broad experience in Medical Oncology
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working
- Experience in the management upper and lower gastrointestinal cancers and gynae cancers
Desirable criteria
- Significant experience in Oncology research
- Experience of working within the NHS
- Teaching experience
