Job overview
An exciting opportunity to join our small team of diabetes dietitians has arisen. You will be experienced in educating patients who are managing their diabetes with a variety of insulin pumps and continuous blood glucose monitoring. Working as part of a small team, liaising closely with our diabetes specialist nurses and endocrinology consultants to provide a MDT approach to support and educate our patients, empowering them to self manage their diabetes.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have a broad range of relevant clinical experience and able to demonstrate a real passion for diabetes, and the management of diabetes with individual and group education and insulin pump therapy.
You will work as part of the adult diabetes dietetic team within a multidisciplinary team consisting of dietitians, diabetes specialist nurses and consultants. You will be promoting patient education and independence with the focus on empowering self management.
As a dietitian at HHFT you can expect to receive robust peer support and regular formal supervision and clinical supervision.
You will have opportunities to lead on and contribute to service improvement projects, and have an active role in student training. We have close links with the Universities of Surrey and Winchester and take a variety of students for their clinical placements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

· To work as an advanced specialist dietitian for diabetes within the nutrition and dietetic department at HHFT. · Working closely with the diabetes multidisciplinary team including diabetes specialist nurses, dietitians, and consultants, to provide education, support and empower our patients to manage their own condition. · Contribute to the training of student dietitians, and more general non diabetes specialist staff through clinical placements, tutorials, education and training as appropriate. · To contribute towards service developments through audit and patient surveys, driving changes that improve patient care using a quality improvement approach. |
To participate in the advanced clinical practices related to insulin pump and diabetes technology and dietetics within the multidisciplinary team

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc or equivalent in human nutrition / dietetics
- Registered as a dietitian with the HCPC UK
Desirable criteria
- Member of a relevant specialist / special interest group
- post graduate qualification / evidence of working to Masters level
Experience
Essential criteria
- Good broad experience of dietetics in NHS
- Experience of working clinically in diabetes speciality
- Experience of delivering patient education in a group setting
Desirable criteria
- Experience of implementing change
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- good working knowledge of current relevant guidance for patients with diabetes
- IT literate and familiar with microsoft applications
Desirable criteria
- knowledge of different technologies available to assist in self management for patients with diabetes
