Senior Physiotherapist – MSK RHCH/Cross-Site

We are looking to recruit a rotational MSK Physiotherapist to join our dedicated and motivated team on a part-time permanent basis. You will work alongside an established team of Physiotherapists who are committed to providing the highest standard of patient care.

The role is a rotational MSK Physiotherapy position, with the possibility of rotations on all 3 sites,  which will provide a broad range of both peripheral and spinal problems that present in both an acute and persistent manner. We also offer a variety of exercise/rehabilitation classes and aquatic therapy in a well-equipped department, as well as exposure to working  in fracture, rheumatology, pain and hand clinics. Our ethos is also striving to prioritise a QI  environment and mindset.  You will be expected to manage your own caseload of patients and work closely within the MSK therapy team, as well as the wider MDT.

We offer training and support in line with an FCP and B6 competency pathway as well as MSK specialty rotational opportunities within the department.

Assess and treat a variety of MSK conditions whilst working as part of a team to promote and develop evidence-based care.  Whilst managing your own case load, you will also be part of a full and constantly evolving training and development programme.   You will be expected to rotate through a variety of MSK specialist roles whilst receiving expert clinical guidance and support.  The role also includes an expectation to support band 5 and student colleagues.

HHFT Therapies provides MSK services at Alton, Basingstoke and Winchester, as well as some FCP roles within GP Practices.

To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work within scope of professional practice.

To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations / multi-pathologies, using investigative and analytical skills.

Formulate and deliver an individual therapy management and/or treatment plan based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment sills.

To evaluate patient’s progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes as required. Involve carers with treatment when appropriate, which can involve teaching and assessment of their ability to be involved.

Formulate accurate prognoses, recommend best course of intervention and develop comprehensive discharge plans, including appropriate referrals to other specialities.

Work within trust clinical guidelines and professional guidelines and to have a good working knowledge of national and local standards.
To monitor own and others quality of practice as appropriate.
To demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance and clinical risk and to demonstrate this in daily practice.

To be responsible for maintaining accurate, comprehensive and contemporaneous patient treatment records in line with professional standards of practice.

To be responsible for the safe and competent use of equipment, gym equipment, patient appliances and aids, adhering to the medical devices policy and ensure that junior staff / assistants attain competency prior to use.

To comply with the Trust Manual Handling Policy and local therapeutic handling guidelines at all times with / without the use of equipment / machinery.

To be responsible for maintaining an accurate and up to date record of patient statistics

To demonstrate the physical ability to carry out treatments and interventions that require exertion of moderate physical effort on a daily basis. This frequently includes heavy patients and confined spaces.

To demonstrate the mental ability to retain concentration and remain focused throughout a working day.

To work as a lone practitioner in accordance with the lone worker SOP. This may be in the form of extended hours, on call, community work, cross site and seven day working.

  • BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, Grad Dip Phys or equivalent
  • HCPC registration / CSP membership

  • Relevant Msc in Physiotherapy
  • Other relevant qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

  • Evidence of recent and continuous appropriate band 5 rotational experience including orthopaedics.
  • Demonstrate effective management of own workload and autonomous practice
  • Evidence of undertaking relevant post graduate training/ CPD including reflective practice
  • Knowledge & experience in a wide range of MSK conditions and good awareness of evidence based practice.

  • Previous Band 6 experience
  • Show evidence of doing or have potential to supervise and teach more junior staff, students and other members of the healthcare team
  • Relevant project or service improvement work
  • Interest in research and audit
  • Experience in aquatic therapy
