Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will a need to have experience in diagnostic neuroradiology but will also undertake a share of the plain film reporting, ultrasound, CT and MRI workload. The successful candidate will be an HHFT Consultant and may be asked to work at any of our sites (Basingstoke, Winchester or Andover). The precise details will be agreed in a job plan, and we are usually able to accommodate reasonable requests. You will be expected to participate in the diagnostic on-call rota in Winchester.

All Radiologists are very much encouraged to contribute to the running of the department. This is rewarded with SPA allocation that will be allocated according to the level of contribution. We have regular discrepancy (REALM) meetings, Consultant meetings and quarterly strategy meetings which are now largely online.

There is a career progression framework in place for radiographers and RDAs at HHFT Radiology. We currently have four plain film reporting radiographers, a team of sonographers including one Consultant Sonographer. We aim to be the regional imaging provider and employer of choice.

We use Sectra PACS and CRIS as part of the SWASH+ consortium (HHFT, Southampton, Portsmouth, Salisbury, Isle of Wight and Southern Health), and Talking Point voice recognition software across HHFT Radiology. All HHFT radiologists have access to pooled administration and IT support.

Working for our organisation

We are in an exciting transition phase for the department as we continue a 10-year, £40 million programme of equipment replacement and department refurbishment.

Our two acute sites at Basingstoke and Winchester, provide radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT, MRI and interventional radiology services, most standard clinical specialties are provided at both sites. The Winchester site houses the hyper-acute stroke unit for the trust and is developing a cardiac CT service. The Breast Screening Unit is located at Winchester. The Basingstoke site houses a tertiary pseudomyxoma and peritoneal malignancy unit, tertiary liver surgery unit, and a tertiary haemophilia centre. The Basingstoke site is also a designated trauma unit within the Trauma Network. Nuclear Medicine is situated on the Basingstoke Site.

The Andover site currently offers radiography, Dexa,  and ultrasound. It is being developed as a Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) and now houses a modular CT scanner with plans for an MRI unit  to replace the mobile unit, later in 2024. Smaller community imaging facilities also exist at Alton (radiography Community Hospital  and ultrasound). Tertiary links are in place with Southampton, Oxford, Guildford and Frimley for various clinical pathways.
