We have a fantastic opportunity for an energetic Speech and Language Therapist who is dysphagia trained, to become part of our friendly Speech and Language Therapy team that provides care to adult patients out of Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust. Our team is committed to providing a high-quality service and we embrace change. This is a fixed term 1 year post to cover maternity leave.

Within our team we have a dynamic mix of experienced and skilled therapists who foster and support a varied learning environment. This post would be providing community care to a varied caseload through outpatients, home visits and telehealth. You will have opportunities working with frailty, Dementia, progressive neurological conditions, ENT (voice), & stroke. You will be required to work from home for up to 3 days a week. There will also be an expectation of working on site across both sites. There is daily access to senior therapists for support and regular scheduled supervision.

The Speech and Language Therapy team run both Video fluoroscopy and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Examination of Swallowing (FEES) services which you will have an opportunity to gain experience in.

We work very closely with our inpatient colleagues to provide a seamless service for our patients. Opportunities to work within these areas can be explored.

 

Main duties of the job

Community/Outpatient/Telehealth Speech and Language Therapist based at either the Royal Hampshire County Hospital Winchester (RHCH) or Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital (BNHH).

The predominant caseload will include patients with Eating, Drinking and Swallowing (EDS) difficulties, voice and those with acquired communication difficulties.

The service will be provided via telehealth, telephone, outpatients, and home visits. Access to your own vehicle would be preferred.

There will be close team working with the Basingstoke North Hampshire Hospital acute team and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital acute team and cross-site working may be required at times for equity of service and seamless transfer of care.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Speech & Language Therapy degree level qualification or equivalent
  • Registered member of the Health Care Professions Council
  • Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of attendance of relevant specialist short courses and maintenance of CPD within the field of adult acquired communication/swallowing disorders

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to assess and manage classical cases of swallowing disorder with minimal support
  • Experience of working with a range of adult speech and language therapy-related disorders (including voice)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of clinical supervision of students and others
  • Experience of delivering training to others
  • Experience of service delivery in a wider range of clinical settings

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – including observation, listening and empathy skills
  • Ability to reflect on practice both individually and with peers/mentors
