An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced midwife to join our maternity team as Patient Safety Lead on a 6-month secondment.
In this pivotal role, you will lead maternity governance activity to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care. You will be responsible for overseeing governance processes, managing risk, and driving continuous quality improvement across maternity services.
We are seeking a motivated and well-organised individual with strong leadership skills and a genuine passion for promoting safety, learning, and excellence in maternity care.
The post holder will work closely with the Deputy Director of Midwifery, Perinatal Quality & Safety Matron, and specialty clinical leads to foster a positive culture of safety and learning from experience. You will lead on the monitoring, investigation, and reporting of maternity-related safety incidents and risks, proactively developing systems and processes to support safer services and best practice.
Main duties of the job
Professional Responsibilities
- Create an environment in which effective learning from incidents can take place
- Coordinate the investigation and response to clinical incident, and serious incidents requiring investigation on behalf of the maternity services including facilitation of incident and panel reviews and feedback to staff and patients
- Ensure compliance with Duty of Candour requirements through monitoring and collaboration working with Associate Director of Midwifery, Perinatal Quality & Safety Matron and Trust Patient Safety and Governance leads
- Support the senior midwifery managers and trust complaints and legal team incoordination of complaints and claim requirements
- Work in partnership with a range of clinicians and managers in the planning or development of the service to promote patients safety and risk management
