Main duties of the job
This post is to cover for planned absence within the team and to ensure consultant led provision of obstetric and gynaecological services in Hereford and to support with the following :
- Provide clinical leadership and lead by example
- Develop and implement standards of obstetric & gynaecological practice and have a major role in developing specific pathways, guidelines and risk management
- Train and educate staff in a multidisciplinary team
- Ensure effective teamwork
- Bring experience to clinical diagnosis and opinion
- Audit the effectiveness of practice and modify it as required.
- Work in conjunction with the nurses, midwives, administration team, managers and colleagues.
There may be times when a session will be used flexibly to cover another session, such as hot week to allow another colleague to undertake certain duties.

Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCOG or equivalent
- Full doctors GMC registration with Licence to Practise
- Two appropriate ATSMs or Equivalence in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Possesses training and education skills to teach junior medical, nursing and midwifery staff
- Demonstrates Leadership qualities
- Provides learning opportunities within the clinical environment
Desirable criteria
- Candidates should ideally be on the Specialist Register
Training

Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Wide general gynaecological and obstetric training
- Confidence in performing major gynaecology surgery and intermediate minimal access gynaecological surgery Management of high risk labour ward
Desirable criteria
- Experience in Advanced minimal access surgery or total laparoscopic hysterectomy will be beneficial

- Training (and preferably accreditation) in another area of specialisation such as laparoscopy, ambulatory hysteroscopy, maternal medicine and/ or gynaecology scanning
