An exciting opportunity is available for an Assistant Psychologist to join the HPFT Community Child and Young People’s Mental Health Service (CYPMHS) for the South Hertfordshire team, based at Borehamwood Civic Office and/or Watford Peace Centre.
This role is part of an established community team within the HPFT Specialist Division, focusing on the assessment and treatment of children and young people with mental health challenges. The CYPMHS team provides specialist assessments and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for young people in the community and offers long-term support in collaboration with children, young people, and their families.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining the service database, entering data, generating reports on service targets, and conducting audits and evaluations in accordance with national guidelines for monitoring service delivery and clinical progress, all under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist. They will also play a role in supporting the treatment of children and young people, following psychological therapy guidelines and supervision.
Regular clinical supervision will be provided. Applicants should have a recognised undergraduate degree in Psychology and be eligible for Graduate Basis for Registration with the British Psychological Society. Experience delivering group-based interventions or working with adolescents with complex mental health needs is desirable.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Job Summary:
• To assist care planning and delivery for those children & young people who are receiving a community CAMHS service, in particular ensuring CYP-IAPT principles and practice are implemented (80% of job plan) and the delivery of psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified psychological practitioner (20% of job plan).
• The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary quadrant CAMHS team assisting in the provision of a high-quality service to CYP and their carers experiencing mental health difficulties and Social Care difficulties.
The role requires skills in assessing, planning, organizing, reviewing and assisting in delivering CYPIAPT informed processes and evidence-based interventions to support the recovery of service users as agreed with supervising clinician(s). This work will be in accordance with clinical governance processes and professional standards. The post holder will utilize their skills and knowledge to assist in ensuring CYP-IAPT processes are in place including outcomes measure use, undertaking assessments(where appropriate), identifying desired outcomes and where appropriate carrying out
intervention.
• To gain wider experience of professional psychology within the NHS
• Any other duties commensurate with the grade which may be required to enable effective and efficient running of the service.

Training/qualifications
Essential criteria
- Upper second class honours degree in psychology, or other higher degree in psychology, or equivalent undergraduate qualification.
Desirable criteria
- Masters level training in relevant Psychological or Mental Health area.
- Post-graduate training in relevant mental-health / psychological / recovery discipline.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with children/young people
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
- At least two years’ experience of work with children and/or adolescents with moderate to severe mental health problems
- Experience in psychological interventions – DBT, CBT or interpersonal therapy interventions or other evidence based approaches.
Knowledge and Skill
Essential criteria
- Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.
- Ability to manage distressing and challenging situations.
