Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit an experienced Medical Devices Technical Specialist with Chartered Engineer status to provide technical leadership to our innovative, responsive medical devices team as well as fulfilling the requirements of being HCT’s Medical Services Safety Officer. The role is varied and will involve working with the Medical Devices Service Lead to continue to deliver a valued, flexible and high quality service to operational community based services.

Main duties of the job

At Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust, our Medical Devices Team are crucial in helping the Trust and the wider NHS system achieve our strategic priorities; these include improving patient outcome and experience, reducing health inequalities and ensuring we deliver best value for money. The key aim of the Medical Devices Technical Specialist is to support the development of outstanding, high quality and responsive community services.

This is an exciting and varied role, and the post holder will be an important leader linking with operational teams and quality team as well as wider organisation. They will provide expert technical knowledge to the Medical Devices team and into procurement and testing process for Medical Devices in the trust.

The postholder will be required to fulfill the requirements as the Trusts Medical Devices Safety Offer (MDSO)

Person specification

Technical Specialist

Essential criteria
  • • Masters degree or equivalent experience or degree equivalent with highly developed specialist knowledge of medical device management
  • • Significant experience of medical device management at a senior level within an NHS setting
  • • Experience of managing a team
  • • Specialist knowledge of the broad range of medical devices in use in a community trust
  • • Knowledge and experience of the procurement and management of maintenance contracts
  • • Developed analytical skills to enable the understanding and interpretation of information and data
  • • Ability to manage complex issues, to research and investigate and challenge information
  • • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in the use of software packages (MS Word , Excel , Power Point and Databases)
  • • Highly organised and able to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
  • • Eligible to live and work in the UK
Desirable criteria
  • Chartered engineer status
  • Previous NHS experience Knowledge of medical device maintenance software
