Job overview
This is a pivotal role at HPFT that involves overseeing the development of data models to support operations and decision-making. This position requires advanced SQL skills, enabling the individual to not only manage complex data queries but also support other team members in SQL proficiency. The Senior Data Analyst will be responsible for designing and implementing robust data models and data sets, ensuring data integrity and accessibility across various departments. Their expertise will contribute to the optimisation of data workflows and the enhancement of data-driven strategies within the HPFT.
In addition to technical skills, the Senior Data Analyst will collaborate closely with clinical and administrative staff to understand their data needs and provide tailored solutions. They will play a key role in translating data insights into actionable recommendations, supporting the continuous improvement of healthcare services. The ability to communicate complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders is essential, as is the experience in building and maintaining data models that align with NHS standards and regulations. This role is integral to fostering a data-informed culture within HPFT, driving efficiency and improving patient outcomes.
Main duties of the job

Communications
The Senior Data Analyst is required to engage in both formal and informal communication methods to effectively manage their responsibilities. This role involves regular interaction with various stakeholders, including clinical and administrative staff, performance and analytics teams, data warehouse and integration teams, and service leads across the Trust. The communication can range from discussing data needs and providing tailored solutions to translating data insights into actionable recommendations. Given the nature of the information, which may include sensitive and complex data about service users, it is crucial to maintain confidentiality and adhere to relevant UK data protection laws.
The post holder must be adept at both written and verbal communication to convey complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively. This includes preparing detailed reports, presentations, and data visualisations, as well as participating in meetings and discussions to ensure that all parties are informed and aligned with the Trust's objectives. The role also requires the ability to handle contentious and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism, ensuring that communication is clear, accurate, and respectful of all individuals involved. By fostering open and transparent communication, the Senior Information Manager will support the continuous improvement of healthcare services and contribute to a data-informed culture within HPFT.

Essential criteria
- Advanced SQL skills, including the ability to manage complex data queries
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience with Power BI
- Experience with R coding
Qualifications / Education / Training
Essential criteria
- Evidence of education and/or training in data analytics or information management concepts
- Advanced SQL certification or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- Master's degree in a relevant field
- Membership of professional bodies such as the British Computer Society (BCS)
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in building and managing data sets using SQL
- Experience in supporting or mentoring team members in technical tasks
Desirable criteria
- Experience with NHS data sets including MHSDS
- Experience in implementing data governance frameworks
