Job overview

We are recruiting for a Nurse Specialist - Dermatology who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. 

The post holder will become part of a well-established multidisciplinary team treating patients with Dermatology conditions. They will be expected to run nurse-led, providing patients with excellent, evidence-based care, both in person and via the clinical advice line. They will be responsible for assessing, developing and implementing care and undertaking specialist nursing procedures. They will provide specialist advice and support to patients, liaising with other staff members and allied healthcare professionals. This includes specialist education, encompassing new treatments and discussing complex cases with the multidisciplinary team. They will be required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in this specialist area.

In addition, you will receive a High-Cost Area Supplement of 5% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £1,346 and a maximum payment of £2,270 per annum.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner by carrying out assessments, planning, implementing and evaluating care. As a qualified non-medical / Independent Prescriber (where applicable) and prescribe any medications within clinical competencies. This includes:

Provision of care through screening programmes, nurse-led clinics, accepting referrals, undertaking diagnostic procedures, undertaking therapeutic procedures, physical assessments and obtaining written consent to treatment

Referring patients directly to specialists in other professions

Providing expert specialist clinical advice for patients, carers and health care professionals

Carrying a caseload, and responsibility for the management of complex cases

Improving and maintaining standards of care within the specialty

Developing the skills of generalist nurses, and other health professionals (including doctors) to enable them to provide a high standard of care for patients within the specialty

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse; education to degree level or willingness to undertake
  • Post registration qualification / training in specialty
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Leadership and/or Teaching qualification
  • Advanced clinical assessment
Desirable criteria
  • Non-medical / independent prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake
  • Masters Degree or willingness to undertake

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work autonomously & accept personal accountability for own practice
  • Experience of Clinical Governance
  • Understanding of evidence-based practice
  • Experience of innovative working / initiating change
Desirable criteria
  • Significant and/or relevant experience in the specialty
