Job overview

We are recruiting for a Screener/Grader who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. 

They will work within the Herts and West Essex Diabetic Eye Screening Programme to deliver diabetic eye screening for patients in the Herts and West Essex area to the highest standards of quality and care.
This is an opportunity for an experienced and skilled screener/grader to work within the East & North Hertfordshire retinal screening team, providing a high-quality comprehensive screening service to patients with diabetes in the area.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake Referral Outcome Grading (ROG) when required and to feedback to the team at the regular MDT meetings. 

You will also undertake the monthly EQA grading test (TaT) and participate in the ongoing internal quality assurance of grading standards. 

You may train and mentor new screening recruits in all aspects of screening/grading, providing regular 1:1 feedback. Additionally, you'll be involved in the ongoing audit activities of the screening team.  

The successful candidate will monitor the grading queues to ensure grading is completed and results are notified according to programme standards. 

You will assist the Team leader with appraisals of the screening team on a six-monthly interview. 

To work autonomously with minimal direction from the clinical management.

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • Health Screener Diploma in Diabetic eye screening
  • Good level of education
Desirable criteria
  • Further education

Previous Experiance

Essential criteria
  • Extensive grading experience at Primary, Secondary, arbitration and referral outcome grading.
  • Keep accurate and complete records consistent with legislation, policy and procedures
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Significant experience in secondary grading
  • Understanding of NHS screening procedures

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience of undertaking audit and research
  • Ability to recognise common non-DR related eye conditions and refer appropriately
  • Ability in taking responsibility for diagnosis from examining images and communication to patients and medical personnel in a sensitive but straightforward manner
  • OCT capture and interpretation

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent understanding of diabetic eye screening
