Are you an occupational therapist  who has  the  knowledge and desire to work with vulnerable children who are supported by the local authority or are looked after by the Local Authority? If you have a passion to support children who have suffered developmental trauma  this could be an amazing opportunity.

This is a really exciting new role which you will be part of developing. 

The  Community CAMHS Targeted Team working with children and young people presenting with emotional and behavioural problems who  have a history of complex attachment difficulties due to abuse, neglect, trauma which are causing emotional distress and impacting on their mental health. The children we support may be  on the edge of care,  Looked after by the local authority or children who have been adopted.

CAMHS Targeted Team is a welcoming, friendly and supportive multi-disciplinary team who are committed to providing innovative and high quality care. We offer a variety of evidence based specialist therapeutic interventions such as : Trauma focused CBT, work, functional and sensory assessments, we are  informed by Dyadic developmental psychotherapy, play therapy and offer reflective network spaces  to professionals around the child or young person. we use our knowledge of trauma and attachment to support those receiving the service whether this is direct or indirect work for the child/careers and or the network to support and help with mental health difficulties.

 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will:

  • conduct assessments and provide therapeutic interventions, in line with NICE guidance and excellent clinical practice, for children who have experienced adverse childhood experiences and may have complex trauma and other mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
  • The occupational therapist will be developing this role and work alongside and collaboratively with team members as well as have their own caseload.
  • There will be significant working with partner agencies such as Hertfordshire Children's service due to the nature of our team
  • be part of an excellent multi-disciplinary team
  • be expected to work holistically with your service users, taking a care coordination function as required

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You would be part of and lead on professional consultations

Support the team with Duty

Undertake assessments and formulation

Offer CPD session to the team 

Undertake sensory integrations assessments and offer advice to collogues in the team around this presenting issues for young people 

You will hold a caseload of young people and offer therapeutic interventions and work with network around the child

Qualifications, Education, Training

Essential criteria
  • BSc/MSc/PG Dip Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of clinical post registration training
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and associated packages.
  • Practice Placement qualification/APPLE accreditation
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of RCOT, including specialist section
  • First line management training
  • Solution Focussed Brief Therapy Training
  • AMPS/ESI training
  • Sensory Integration Practitioner /Training

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience in relevant clinical setting/s at a B6 level
  • Applied experience of providing both individual and group work interventions.
  • Highly Specialist knowledge and experience of using and applying the Model of Human Occupation assessment tools, or others appropriate to area.
  • Experience of other specialist Occupational Therapy assessment tools, e.g. AMPS2, Sensory Assessment
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience in providing advice, support and clinical supervision to junior staff and/or students
  • Applied knowledge of Recovery principles and how these relate to OT
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or learning disability in a variety of health and social care settings
  • Involvement in recruiting staff
  • Experience in research or audit
  • Previous experience of having worked at Band 7level

Communication Skills

Essential criteria
  • Very strong communication skills, written and verbal and the ability to persuade and negotiate with peers and senior colleagues
  • Proven track record of working within a multidisciplinary team and applying an understanding of team dynamics to impact positively on team morale and performance.
  • Knowledge and application of key policy, health legislation and guidelines which impact on OT and mental health/LD practice.
  • Ability to provide and receive sensitive and difficult information regarding service users care and social situation
  • Knowledge of and effective use of appropriate professional relationships and boundaries
  • High level of ability to grade and adapt practical skills
  • Evidence of delivery of training and professional development sessions

Analytical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to apply broad and specific knowledge of current best practice in OT and mental health
  • A highly developed level of problem solving/clinical judgement skills and the ability to analyse professional and ethical issues
  • Ability to respond and adjust appropriately to the changing needs of service users
  • Highly developed Observational skills
  • Highly Specialist knowledge and experience of using the Model of Human Occupation Assessment tools and or equivalent in area
  • Very highly developed ability to evaluate group interventions and outcomes
  • Very highly developed case formulation skills to guide own OT intervention plan and those of others
  • Experience of audits/evaluations of interventions and direct involvement of implementation of any subsequent changes to practice.

Physical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to use a range of IT equipment relevant to the role
  • Ability to engage in a range of physical activities
Desirable criteria
  • Car Driver(unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 which prevents you from driving)
