Job overview
- To work as a member of a countywide Eating Disorders Service across Hertfordshire.
- To supervise and support our band 6 dietitian within CEDS
- To undertake a comprehensive dietetic assessment of eating disorder service users including those with diverse or highly complex presentation/multiple pathologies in order to identify their nutritional problems and needs and ensure that a holistic approach is taken. This includes identification of nutrition and dietetic diagnoses, a plan for nutrition and dietetic intervention and monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the plan.
- To offer a range of dietetic interventions appropriate to eating disorders, disordered eating and associated comorbidities.
- To advise on and supervise prescribed diets assessing, recording and reporting desired and non-desired effects.
- To provide clinical support to the Eating Disorder Service with respect to dietary care
- To liaise with specialist eating disorder units in preparation for discharge, when possible
- To act as an advocate for the service user and family ensuring the provision of appropriate information and support services.
- To recognize the need when to request the help of the other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- To support the co-ordination of treatment plans within the caseload to ensure a high standard of multidisciplinary care.
· To participate in the planning of transition from children’s to adult eating disorders services where needed.
Main duties of the job
· To be responsible for the development and delivery of an evidenced based dietetic service
- To provide community dietetic services for clients with an eating disorder in a flexible manner, maintaining effective communication with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
· To participate in team meetings and other meetings as requested.
· To liaise with catering departments and ward staff should a service user with an eating disorder be admitted to a ward in a General Hospital or a Mental Health Unit
- Using high level skills to identify and overcome barriers to change using interviewing, counselling and motivational skills. This will require well developed skills in negotiation, persuasion, tact and diplomacy which may include group work and one to one contacts.
- To work with service users, their families/carers observing their unique individual requirements and needs.
- To participate in Clinical Supervision, providing clinical supervision and mentorship to trainees as required.
· To maintain clinical records in line with Trust requirements and to maintain a record of work activities as required by the manager and the information department.
- To be actively involved in collection of appropriate data and statistics for the use of the department and in line with the requirements of the Trust and other purchases.
· To comply with professional Code of Conduct at all times.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
1. Strategic Responsibility
· To support and supervise the other team dietitian, to work countywide ensuring a comparable service provision is available to all Hertfordshire residents or those with a Herts GP with eating disorders
· To work collaboratively with community mental health services across the Trust, GP's, Child and Family Services and other professionals and community agencies to broaden public awareness of the needs of people with eating disorders
· To actively identify areas and participate on appropriate service developments
- To support the role of nutrition and the problems of eating disorders in the public health setting.
- To be involved in review of professional standards, protocols and national guidelines as they apply to the dietetic input.

Education/ Qualification/ Training
Essential criteria
- BSc or MSc in Dietetics / Nutrition & Dietetics
- Registered Dietitian with HCPC
Desirable criteria
- Member of the BDA mental health specialist interest group (or willingness to join)
- Postgraduate training in eating disorders specific therapies (e.g. CBT, CBT-E, Family Based Treatment, MANTRA, SSCM)
- Relevant post-registration training in Mental Health and/or eating disorders
- Evidence of recognised post registration training in Motivational Interviewing and/or behaviour change
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of specialist dietetic assessment and treatment with service users presenting high levels of complexity and difficulty, specifically including those with eating disorders
- Proven capacity in working in multi-disciplinary, multi-agency, multi-cultural context with varying theoretical perspectives
- Experience of working in a culturally diverse area
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary way
Desirable criteria
- Experience of providing evidence based interventions for service users with eating disorders, disordered eating behaviour and associated co-morbidities
- Experience of providing line management and clinical supervision
- Experience in delivering or supporting delivery of eating disorder CBT / CBT-E / FBT / MANTRA / SSCM treatment protocols
- Experience working in the NHS
