Job overview
The post holder will act as a generic chaplain within the spiritual care team for 15 hours a week.
Working alongside the current chaplains and the spiritual care service manager, the chaplain will have primary responsibility for the delivery of pastoral and spiritual care to service users, families & carers, and staff attached to a number of community teams and at several Trust inpatient units across the trust footprint.

Main duties of the job
· contribute to the provision of generic pastoral and spiritual care on agreed inpatient units via a structured, flexible weekly or fortnightly timetable of visits
· establish and develop relationships with community teams at the base(s) relating to this post, take referrals and establish pastoral and spiritual care as a component within the care of community service users
· manage an extensive case load sometimes involving complex psychological and spiritual needs
· lone work where required in accordance with Trust protocols
· where requested, offer confidential pastoral care to staff on an individual basis
· participate fully in the planning, development and evaluation of the spiritual care service
· work collaboratively alongside the Trust chaplains in ensuring the effective and comprehensive provision of pastoral and spiritual care across Hertfordshire
· where appropriate for the ongoing care of patients/service users and families/carers, develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with local third sector organisations that provide related pastoral support within the community
· conduct themselves in accordance with the principles of the national standards and code of conduct relating to The Council of Professional Chaplains and Pastoral Carers (formally UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy)
· continue maintain up to date mandatory and other training requirements associated with both your substantive role and that of the secondment

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Appropriate registration, or eligible for registration
- Experience of generic chaplaincy
- Educated to degree level in a health care, theological, ministry or allied discipline
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Experience of mental health or learning disability services
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad based clinical experience across a range of settings.
- Post -qualification experience working in a mental health and/or learning disability care environment
- Evidence of effective listening skills
Desirable criteria
- Proven pastoral counselling skills
- Experience of developing and facilitating staff training courses
Communication Skills
Essential criteria
- Experience of providing support to people using healthcare services both on an individual and group basis.
- Experience of using Microsoft Office programmes – e.g. word, excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Email and Callender functions – for regular and real-time communication
- Report writing
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with a range of professionals to find solutions to complex problems.
