We have an opportunity for an experienced nurse who is Band 6 or above. 

The role is within the Acute & Urgent Care Division (Inpatients), based at the friendly and supportive team at Swift Ward, Kingfisher Court, Radlett.

Swift Ward is a 18 bedded acute mental health assessment and  treatment ward offering acute mental health care to adults. The ward provides mixed sex accommodation and has a multi-disciplinary team including psychologists, occupational therapy, recreational workers as well as the nursing and medical team.

The Clinical Practice Lead will provide professional and practice development support to the acute assessment unit (AAU) nursing staff on all aspects of mental health nursing.

As delegated by the clinical matron, the post holder will support the implementation of the purposeful admission model including associated nursing interventions, policies, and standards.

This will be delivered through a highly visible presence within the AAU and will be underpinned by demonstrating values-based approach to the delivery of compassionate, safe, and effective patient care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will:

  • Support to develop and enhance nursing practice, skills, and competencies within inpatient setting through a variety of means, but strongly linked to direct ‘shop floor’ practice
  • Share good practice within AAU services in line local, Trust and national standards and policy
  • Responsible for developing innovative clinical and evidence-based nursing practice in line with agreed priorities, standards, policies, and guidance, ensuring that nurses at all levels are involved in the process
  • Facilitate the dissemination of new and updated polices and guidance, and auditing application in practice
  • Work with the wider leadership team in developing and delivering workshops, training, and education in line with service and local priorities and initiatives

Critically contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical guidelines, procedures and policies and the monitoring of nursing standards including nursing care assurance

Maintain effective working relationships with all members of the nursing, multidisciplinary team (MDT) and team leader and other operational management managers.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION /TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • RN (Mental Health)
  • BSC in Nursing or equivalent
  • Demonstrable evidence of CPD with direct relevance to this post
Desirable criteria
  • V300 (non-medical prescribing)

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Experience at Band 6 or above in acute mental health inpatient setting
  • Experience of supervising junior staff
  • Experience of leading a nursing team i.e., nurse in charge
  • Experience of undertaking nursing audits e.g., Fundamentals of care, IPC

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of undertaking risk assessments and developing risk management plans and wellbeing plans
  • Good understand of the functions of acute assessment unit (AAU) and of the purposeful admission model.
  • Good understanding of practice governance and continuous improvement processes including risk management and audit
  • Delivering effective practice that is evidence based.
  • Ability to make clinical decisions within a context of complexity and stressful to determine accurate assessment and outcome
  • Evidence of practice development and of implementing innovative practice
