Job overview

Hertfordshire Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Services is modernising and expanding! This is a new post created to strengthen our operational support to our high risk pathway between community and inpatients and help refine enhanced clinical pathways in line with our ambitions to provide care closer to home.

We are seeking an Operational Manager with a comprehensive understanding of clinical service delivery, service development and quality standards to support our community Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services (CYPMHS).

These are exciting times for our CYPMHS services as we transform and enhance our services for young people across our County, and we are seeking applications from exceptional managers with a clinical background and operational mental health experience in mental health, to lead our CYPMHS teams.

The Operational Manager will support our GAU, Forest House adolescent unit, Home Treatment Team and DBT service, ensuring that the pathway across services works together in the interests of patient experience and great care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the allocation, deployment, prioritisation and delivery of services, for implementing and reviewing systems, policies, standards and procedures that ensure the provision of high quality services within frameworks agreed by the Trust.

The role will play a key role in the services transformation, and be a point of contact with the provider collaborative.

You’ll have substantial management experience within the NHS, and significant experience of working with clinicians and multi-disciplinary teams to achieve service improvement. We’d like to see a real passion for operational management in acute mental health services, and the difference you can make to service users and carers. It’s a challenging role, in a challenging environment, but we believe it will provide a talented and ambitious manager with real scope to develop and influence practice.

You’ll have the opportunity to participate in our Leadership Academy, and benefit from excellent promotion prospects, some state of the art clinical environments and the opportunity to be part of a fantastic multidisciplinary team of staff who are genuinely committed to improving the lives of our service users and carers. We have an excellent range of staff benefits.

Working for our organisation

Whilst it is a challenging period for the NHS, there has never been a
more exciting time to join HPFT following our CQC rating of
Outstanding awarded to us in April 2019. We are on our “Good to
Great” journey as we continue to innovate, improve, transform and
ultimately deliver the very highest standards of care to the service
users and communities that we serve.

Applications are welcome from forward thinking, conscientious and versatile individuals who are able to demonstrate understanding and experience in leadership and service delivery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Operational Manager will have a mental health background with demonstrated achievements in operational leadership. They will have the ability to lead by example, motivate and empower others and will play a fundamental role in ensuring effective outcomes and high quality care for those using CYPMHS services in Hertfordshire. By inspiring a culture of high performance and continuous quality improvement in teams, the post holder will ensure the sustained provision of high quality services and standards for our service users, their carers and families.

This is an exciting time to join our service as we are developing new ways of working across both inpatient and community services and are looking for a strong leader to help us achieve our vision.  You’ll have demonstrable management experience within the NHS, and significant experience of working with clinicians and multi-disciplinary teams to achieve service improvement.
