Job overview

·       Taking responsibility for making a significant contribution to the nursing input, participating fully in the referral and allocation process, assessments, treatment, risk management, safeguarding vulnerable children and adults, care coordination of service users as well as contributing to case discussions and service-related meetings.

·       Offering consultations and supervision to colleagues and students as well as staff in other services.

Main duties of the job

·          To develop and provide highly specialist evidence-based interventions for service users, drawing on a wide range of theoretical frameworks and treatment modalities.

·          To deliver timely, accessible services through both clinic based and outreach models.

·          To provide highly specialist advice and consultation regarding formulations and treatment to colleagues, external agencies working autonomously within professional guidelines.

·          Care-coordinate a caseload of service users delivering highly specialist assessments and integrated care.

·          Together with other team members to be responsible for developing nursing practice in the service including the supervision of both nursing colleagues and colleagues from other disciplines in the service.

·          To actively participate in supervision, appraisal and professional development to enhance clinical skills, e.g. nurse prescribing

·        To chair/attend MDTs for all teams providing clinical sign off

·          To work collaboratively and provide nursing consultation to other relevant professions within HPFT and external agencies to build capacity in terms of the early identification and physical and psychological management of disorders and/or disability.

·          To take a leading role for service innovation and development, including projects with other junior staff to ensure delivery of safe effective nursing

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • RMHN / Social Worker Qualification
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Willingness to complete further training and qualification identified as appropriate to the role
  • Communications skills / Leadership training

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of working with CYPMHS
  • Leadership skills
  • Range of work procedures and practices; base level of theoretical knowledge
  • Knowledge and experience to deal with nonroutine issues such as problem solving for an area of work or developing alternative or additional procedure
  • Knowledge of specialist functional / medical/legal terms, organisational policies and procedures
  • Experience in a mental health environment or NHS

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY

Essential criteria
  • Experience in working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience liaising with external agencies and report writing
  • Awareness of mental health problems affecting children and young people
  • Experience and understanding of neurodevelopment difficulties, including Autism spectrum disorder Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
  • Awareness of child protection policies and procedures

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Essential criteria
  • Pleasant and efficient telephone manner
  • Professional approach when using email
  • Friendly and welcoming manner when receiving visitors at reception
  • Calm and efficient when resolving issues
  • Able to provide and receive routine information requiring tact or persuasive skills, considering barriers to understanding. Eg. anxious patients cultural differences, language or communication difficulties.
  • Able to clearly and accurately communicate routine information verbally and in writing, with patients and staff on, for example discharge, admission, transfer.

ANALYTICAL SKILLS

Essential criteria
  • Able to use their own judgement to find solutions to visitor/staff requests/needs through the use of analytical and problems solving skills
  • Is able to confidently • Escalate issues when necessary. • Prioritise work • Resolve conflicting diary appointments and schedules
  • Able to maintain spreadsheets and analyse and disseminate data
