Job overview
We are recruiting for a Colorectal Cancer Nurse Specialist who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
We are looking for a highly motivated experienced Nurse who is committed to delivering excellent patient care and who takes pride in what they do and will work within the colorectal nursing team to improve the patients' journey. As an experienced nurse you will work alongside nursing and medical colleagues in surgery and oncology to facilitate the best experience and care for individuals with colorectal disease and suspect or confirmed diagnosis' of colorectal cancer.
Excellent communication skills are paramount, an ability to prioritise workload, whilst working as part of a team is also essential.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert specialist clinical advice for patients, carers and health care professionals.
You will liaise with all appropriate members of multi-disciplinary team, ensuring a seamless service between acute and primary care services.
You will also assist in developing the skills of generalist nurses, and other health professionals (including doctors) to enable them to provide a high standard of care for patients within the specialty.
In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based policies / protocols and guidelines within the specialty in collaboration with other professional groups and users.

Qualifications / Training
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse education to Degree level or willingness to undertake
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Teaching qualification
- Advanced communication skills/counselling qualification or willingness to undertake
Desirable criteria
- Post registration qualification in specialty
- Advanced clinical assessment
- Independent Nurse prescriber
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant relevant experience in the Specialty and ability to demonstrate expert nursing skills
- Extensive Band 6 experience colorectal surgery/ oncology/ Palliative Care
- Multidisciplinary team working
- Experience of formal/informal teaching
- Experience of initiating change
- Understanding evidence-based practice
- Experience of Clinical Governance
- Understanding of patient pathways and it’s complexities and how to support patients through this
- Running Nurse led clinics

- Experience working with personalised care follow up programme
