Job overview

We are recruiting for a Registered Nurse who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. 

Are you looking for a new challenge in a fast-paced, dynamic environment? Join our team in the Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) within the Emergency Department at Lister Hospital.

We are seeking for motivated ED and ward nurses to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals requiring further observation, assessment, or treatment. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team, contributing to clinical decisions, patient recovery, and timely discharge.

Main duties of the job

You will conduct clinical assessments of patients admitted to CDU, including observations and pain levels, ensuring early detection of any deterioration or changes.   

You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care needs of patients from admission to discharge home or transfer to the inpatient wards.

You will assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans for patients based on clinical assessment.

You will administer medications, treatments, and interventions prescribed, ensuring adherence to Trust policies, guidelines, and procedures. 

You will collaborate with the MDT to ensure holistic patient care .

You will maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely documentation of patient care in accordance to Trust policies.

You will be a motivated and compassionate nurse who is dedicated to delivering safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

You will coordinate the daily activities and operations with CDU and safely pulling patients from other areas within ED, ensuring efficient patient flow, timely assessments, and adherence to clinical protocols.

You will work closely with the Frailty Team to ensure high quality care is delivered to our patients.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on part 1, part 2 or part 12 of the NMC register
  • Commitment to life long learning
  • BLS/ILS Trained
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Evidence of Assessing and Mentorship qualification

Previous Expereince

Essential criteria
  • Experience within an Emergency department / within a ward environment equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Currently working in an acute ward environment within the NHS
  • Experience of supporting students/clinical support workers within the NHS

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of good communication skills both written and verbal
  • IV trained and competency signed off
  • Ability to work within a team and autonomously
  • Recognizing / managing acutely unwell patients
Desirable criteria
  • Cannulation and phlebotomy skills
  • Computer literacy

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of strategies for maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of current national issues within the NHS
  • Awareness on recent NHS England’s drive to improve 4 hour performance for patient safety
