Job overview

Are you looking to advance your dietetic career and shape the future of renal services? Our renal department are recruiting a Nutrition and Dietetic Professional Lead who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and an exemplary service to our patients. 

You will be a highly specialist renal dietitian clinically and professionally responsible for the renal dietetic service. You will lead on the development of the renal dietetic service and ensure a coordinated, responsive and effective service.

 In the absence of the Renal Multi Professional Service Lead, you will deputise and manage the renal multi professional services (Nutrition and Dietetics, Social Care and Psychological Services).

Main duties of the job

Provide visible, inclusive and approachable leadership for the renal dietetic service acting as a supervisor and line manager for a team of renal dietitians.

Inspire, motivate and enable the Specialist Renal Dietitians to have the skills, authority and autonomy they need to continuously improve the renal dietetic service. 

Deliver clinical services directly to renal patients, accepting responsibility for those with the most complex needs.

Develop and implement policies, protocols and guidelines relevant to the clinical specialty.

Lead on the provision of education and training for all renal staff in specialist clinical area.

Monitor compliance with renal dietetic key performance indicators (KPI’s), service feedback and department objectives to ensure a high quality, cost effective and patient focused service.

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics/PgD Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Current registration with HPC
  • Membership of BDA or equivalent professional indemnity insurance
  • Relevant validated training in specialist area
  • Member of specialist interest group
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical Educators Course – advanced level
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent
  • Management Training qualification
  • Experience of advanced practice

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial post registration experience
  • Must include demonstrable experience in the relevant specialism and multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of supporting learning of MDT professionals
  • Experience and evidence of continuing personal and professional development in practice
  • Experience in the training of student dietitians
  • Experience of supervision of others
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of service review/development
  • Experience of influencing others to improve patient care
  • Ability to disseminate research and service evaluations through presentations and reports

Knowledge / Skills

Essential criteria
  • Accurate anthropometry skills
  • Establish effective communication methods to convey specialist knowledge to patients individually and in groups in a variety of settings
  • Implements behavioural/counselling techniques to constructively overcome barriers to change
  • Able to work autonomously within area of specialism using critical thinking and expert practitioner level judgement
  • Demonstrates holistic patient centred approach
  • Demonstrates good presentation skills
  • I.T. skills – keyboard, email, powerpoint
  • Aware of evolving healthcare agenda within the NHS

  • Post registration credited learning in enhanced communication skills
