About the Role:

As a Registered Nurse or ODP in our Maternity Theatres team you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest standard of care for women undergoing clinical or peri-operative procedures. You will be responsible for:

Scrubbing for elective and emergency maternity theatre cases.

Providing compassionate, post-operative care to women.

Collaborating with the Department Manager, Matron, and a multi-disciplinary team to maintain the highest standards of care.

Main duties of the job

Assist and care for women undergoing elective and emergency caesarean sections, plus contributing to treating women during clinical emergencies.

Receive, transfer and position women for clinical procedures.

Support, monitor and care for women and their babies during clinical procedures and in the postoperative period.

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety and comfort of women.

Store, prepare and administer prescribed drugs to women in accordance with Trust Policy and monitor the effects of drugs on women.

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse or Registered ODP
  • Must be willing to undertake relevant post registration courses as advised by the Practice Education team
Desirable criteria
  • ILS/PILS
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Evidence of mentorship & preceptorship training

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Gained through undertaking relevant study
  • Post qualification experience within the perioperative setting
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant experience in either an inpatient or day surgery theatre, maternity theatre or other relevant clinical area.
  • Peri-operative practice, skilled in recovery and scrub
  • Experience of providing clinical support outside of the theatre area

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic IT skills
  • Can organise and prioritise
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative
  • Flexible
  • Clear written and spoken English
Desirable criteria
  • Good planning skills. Can effectively and efficiently run a theatre list Can participate in the audit process
  • Can perform in the role of scrub and circulating assistant, recovery or has relevant experience within a critical / acute care setting
  • Has relevant experience within maternity or gynaecology surgery.
