Job overview

We are recruiting for a Nurse Team Leader who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The Lister Macmillan Cancer Centre is an 18-bed outpatient facility where we specialise in the safe and compassionate administration of chemotherapy, biological therapies, immunotherapies and other anti-cancer treatments. We see a broad group of patients undergoing both curative and palliative treatments for a range of different cancer types

The successful applicant will need to be a registered nurse with an interest in oncology and the administration of systemic anti-cancer therapies to work in our friendly cancer day unit.

Main duties of the job

You would be joining an experienced and supportive team and have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of professionals including chemotherapy nurses, advanced nurse practitioners and medical oncology consultants.

Experience of chemotherapy administration, venepuncture and cannulation is essential for this Nurse Team Leader post.

Demonstrable chemotherapy experience essential.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Active, current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Educated to degree level in adult nursing or a health-related subject
  • Some familiarity with different types of cancer treatments and their side effects
  • Chemotherapy course completed (band 6) or (band 5) demonstrates willingness to undertake.
Desirable criteria
  • Post-registration qualifications in the field of oncology and / or chemotherapy
  • Advanced communication course

Previous experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-registration experience as a registered nurse in an acute setting.
  • Experience working with cancer patients in a medical setting.
  • Experience communicating sensitively with people who are distressed or in need of emotional support.
  • Previous exposure to central venous access devices.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in the administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy. (essential for band 6)
  • Familiarity with the Chemocare prescription management system (essential for band 6)

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of different cancer types and treatment modalities.
  • Keeps up to date with developments in health and nursing.
Desirable criteria
  • Understands the role of clinical audits and service improvement.
