This post is an important part of our ongoing development of medical services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to work closely with the existing Pain Consultants to provide a high standard of care across the Trust. We are seeking consultants with enthusiasm, commitment, and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation.
There is a 12 months fixed-term post available based at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage which enjoys a unique geographical location close to London and Cambridge. The Trust enjoys a reputation for our commitment to the highest standards of care, but also for our friendly and supportive approach. This post comprises 10 PA’s but could be modified for a candidate preferring to work less than full time.
This is an excellent opportunity within the Pain Department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The post is suitable for those with an interest in innovation and advanced interventional techniques in pain management.
Main duties of the job

Maintenance of high-quality patient centered care

Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service

Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service

Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity

Delivery and development of SACT administration

Active participation in continuing medical education

Active participation in trial research activities

The post is suitable for those with an interest in Pain Medicine service provision requirements. The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their approach to working patterns, undertaking theatre work on any site when required. A strong commitment to the training and education of trainees and other staff members is also expected.
Person specification
Qualifications / Training
Essential criteria
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
- Advanced Pain Training
- Evidence of being up to date and fit to practice safely, and aware of own training needs
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate academic degree
- FFPMRCA or qualification of an equivalent level
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad range of experience in anaesthesia for various specialties
- Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
- Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
- Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
- Experience in organising educational activities
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
- Demonstrable experience and participation in research
- Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
- Experience in a Locum consultant role for at least 6 months
Desirable criteria
- Experience of independent pain practice
Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
- Comprehensive knowledge and insight regarding all the domains within the GMC standards of Good Medical Practice
