Job overview

We are recruiting for a New-born Hearing Screener/Senior Screener who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

A key part of this role is to work with the Local Co-Ordinator to ensure the delivery of the New-born Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) within the timeframes in hospital and community settings and to identify which babies require screening.

Main duties of the job

The New-born Screening Hearing Screener will need to liaise effectively with parents, team members and other health care professionals.

The successful candidate will carry out the screening of new-borns within the maternity unit and accurately record clinical and test data.

You will promote a professional, welcoming and caring environment endorsing a Family Friendly approach to care at all times.

The post holder will ensure they maintain up-to-date knowledge of procedures and policies relevant to this post.

You will also maintain the confidentiality of the babies and their families at all times.

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • Literate and numerate
  • Relevant training certificates related to Newborn hearing screening
  • Qualified Newborn Hearing Screener with experience
  • Management qualification or willing to undertake
Desirable criteria
  • Level 3 diploma in Health Screening

Previous Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Hospital or community experience in patient care
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of undertaking screening across all areas including complex cases.
  • Experience in day-to-day supervision of staff and Staff development

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability and confidence to handle newborn babies
  • Effective communication skills
  • Communication with multiprofessional groups
  • Intermediate IT Skills
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to chair staff meetings
  • Ability to work under pressure

Knowledge

Desirable criteria
  • To be able to understand the process and methodology that is involved with the actual hearing screening test and its application.

  • Experience and evidence of engagement around equality, diversity and inclusion issues in relation to policy, service development and service delivery in respect of both services to users and the management of staff
