Job overview

We are pleased to offer a unique opportunity for highly motivated Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to gain experience within HPFT’s Community Specialist Learning Disability Services (SLDS).

This post sits within a well established SLT team working as part of a wider multi-disciplinary service. The post holder will benefit from formal supervision as well as excellent peer support. There is a strong ethos of Continuous Quality Improvement throughout the service and the Trust as a whole, creating possibilities for developing and extending knowledge and skills.

Main duties of the job

This is an ideal post for a newly qualified SLT, who will receive regular clinical supervision and support and will be actively encouraged to participate in continuing professional development.

The successful candidates will work as an influential and integral member of a diverse multi-disciplinary team and will join the well-established Speech and Language Therapy service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based, person centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate intervention
  • To provide this service to service users within LD community services who present with communication difficulties

Person specification

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • State registration with HCPC
  • RCSLT Membership
Desirable criteria
  • Training in learning disabilities, mental health and/or challenging behaviour

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Specialist knowledge and application of speech and language therapy assessments and interventions
  • Range of clinical experience and ability to demonstrate application of clinical skills
Desirable criteria
  • Planning and co-ordination of treatment packages

Skills/Knowledge/Ability

Essential criteria
  • Clear communication through written, verbal and non-verbal modes
  • Broad knowledge of current best practice in SLT
  • Ability to use problem solving techniques
  • Ability to analyze professional and ethical issues
  • Applied knowledge of mental health legislation including CPA
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and management
  • Computer literacy
  • Basic word processing skills
