We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist with an interest in health psychology/long term conditions to work within our well-established Diabetes Mental Health Liaison Team.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be involved in the day-to-day running and clinical activity of the Diabetes Mental Health Liaison Team working across Watford General and Hemel Hempstead Hospitals. This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to gain research and clinical experience as part of a supportive team.
We would expect the successful applicant to have a good first degree in psychology, excellent organisational skills, and sound teamwork skills. An interest in developing psychological knowledge and skills within an acute general health setting is essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will assist the Practitioner Psychologist by undertaking tasks such as data collection and analysis of referrals and the psychology waiting list. They will also lead on outcome data. In addition they will contribute to treatment interventions both on an individual and group basis under the direction and supervision of a qualified Psychologist who will retain clinical responsibility for clinical work carried out.
Other tasks will include assisting with audit, service evaluation and/or research and to undertake teaching and project work under the supervision of a qualified member of staff.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/TRAINING
Essential criteria
- An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology.
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
- Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.
- An interest in working with people with mental health problems or other disabilities.
- Evidence of examination results
- Interview/ application form / references
Desirable criteria
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Experience of work with people with mental health and/or other disabilities
- An understanding of psychology applied to a mental health context.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with people in group settings.
- Experience of paid work in direct care provision.
- A desire to explore a career in Professional Psychology
- Experience and competence in using cognitive-behavioural therapeutic techniques or other relevant approaches
