Job overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join us as Deputy Radiology Services Manager. This is a full-time senior leadership position, across sites within West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals (WHTH), with core hours of Monday to Friday, 08:30 am to 17:00 pm.

In this role, you will support the operational and strategic delivery of all radiology services alongside the Radiology Services Manager.

 You will play a key role in leading and managing the radiology workforce, working in close collaboration with the Clinical Director for Radiology and the Divisional Manager for Clinical Support Services.

You will also line manage and support our Site Lead Radiographers and Sonographers, helping to ensure excellence in service delivery across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Radiology Departments across West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals, including Watford General, Hemel Hempstead, and St Albans City Hospital.

This role requires an experienced and confident leader, capable of working across multiple sites and adapting to the varying demands of the service.

The post holder will have direct line management responsibility for the Site Lead Radiographers and Modality Lead Radiographers.

Education and qualifications:

Essential criteria
  • DCR or BSc in Radiography (Diagnostic).
  • Post graduate diploma/evidence of post graduate study.
  • HCPC registration.
Desirable criteria
  • PgD or MSc or MBa in relevant field of study Management qualification.
  • Radiation Protection Supervisors certificate.
  • Leadership qualifications.
  • Mediation certifications.

Knowledge:

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and awareness of issues affecting NHS hospitals.
  • Knowledge of all modalities within Radiology.
  • Human Resource issues.
  • Current trends in profession.
  • IR(ME)R & IRR Legislation.
  • HCPC professional standards.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to evaluate and improve quality.
  • Human resources i.e managing sickness absence, appraisal, probations.
  • Clinical Governance awareness.

Experience:

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing diagnostic radiology staff.
  • Demonstrated experience of being responsible for imaging services.
  • Experience working to a Lead Superintendent or site lead Radiographer position.
  • Evidence of leadership and team building.
  • Evidence of supervisory and training staff.
  • Experience of appraising staff and developing staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of delivering a training programme or managing change processes.
  • Experience in audit and continuous quality improvement.
  • Experience in delivering clinical governance programmes.
  • Experience in delivering IRMER & IRR compliance.
