Job overview

We are looking to fill a 10 PA (wte) substantive Consultant Histopathologist post, which has become vacant due to retirement.

The working hours expected are 9AM-5 PM with some time shifting if agreed locally.

The post is based at the Hemel Hempstead site.  Appointees will be expected to provide diagnostic surgical pathology services for the Trust with the distribution of work reflecting service need and specialist interests of the appointee.

  • Successful candidates will be also eligible for a relocation allowance of £12,000 (if required)

The Trust have agreed a proposal for up to 1PA of SPA time/week to be worked flexibly.

This change in in line with the Trusts’ flexible working agenda and recognition of the enormous contribution that this group of staff continue to provide to our staff and patients.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will participate in routine reporting of histopathology and possibly diagnostic cytology specimens. Main focus will be on gynae, skin and urology along with misc samples. This could be negotiated at the time of the interview.

 

They would be expected to provide cover for the MDT and attend clinical governance meetings.

 

There is no out of hours commitment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The appointee will join a team of 10 consultants and three specialist registrars and will be expected to contribute to the teaching and supervision of the registrars.

 

The department has subspecialised reporting groups for the major cancer groups.

 

There will be no requirement for Cervical cytology and cervical screening histology reporting.

 

CPD registration with the Royal college of Pathologists is expected.
