Job overview
We are recruiting for a Screening and Grader Manger for the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
The chosen candidate will work within the Herts and West Essex Diabetic Eye Screening Programme to deliver diabetic eye screening for patients in the Herts and West Essex area to the highest standards of quality and care.
This is an opportunity for an experienced and skilled screener/grader to work within the East & North Hertfordshire retinal screening team, Over seeing the delivery of a high-quality comprehensive screening service to patients with diabetes in the area.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will lead the management of the referral outcome grading queues, ensuring patients are referred in line with national policy and within the required timeframes, escalating more complex cases to the attention of the clinical lead promptly.
You will conduct and oversee the retinal screening OCT clinics taking high quality OCT images.
The successful candidate will train and support senior screener/graders to ensure they reach and retain the required competencies of a referral outcome grader.
You will also be required to assist the programme manager as required including the need to deputise in their absence.

Qualifications / Training
Essential criteria
- Health Screener Diploma in Diabetic eye screening
- Good level of education
Desirable criteria
- Further education
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive grading experience at Primary, Secondary, arbitration and Referral outcome grading
- Keep accurate and complete records consistent with legislation, policy and procedures
- Excellent customer service skills
- Significant experience in secondary grading
- Understanding of NHS Screening procedures
Skills
Essential criteria
- Experience of undertaking audit and research
- Ability to recognise common non-DR related eye conditions and refer appropriately
- Ability in taking responsibility for diagnosis from examining images and communication to patients and medical personal in a sensitive but straightforward manner
- OCT capture and interpretation
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent understanding of diabetic eye screening

- Experience and evidence of engagement around equality, diversity and inclusion issues in relation to policy, service development and service delivery in respect of both services to users and the management of staff
- Flexible and able to work using Initiative
- Ability to remain calm and personable in periods of tension
