Job overview

A rare opportunity has arisen for a Digital First Project Manager (Band 7 12 month FTC/ secondment) to join the Digital First team. The post holder will be required to project manage the successful implementation of a range of strategic digital projects across all relevant Business Units/ Directorates in Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (HCT). 

We are looking for an individual who has previous experience of project management with a proven track record of delivering Digital projects and initiatives. The candidate will be required to have a keen eye for detail, the ability to work within a robust project methodology framework and monitor progress across all work streams associated with digital projects. The candidate will also be required to ensure that all project benefits are achieved, in conjunction with the Senior Project Manager/ Programme Lead/ Project Sponsor/ Subject Matter Expert (SME).

Main duties of the job

      Develop all project documentation including project definition and progress reports, covering financial, communication and risk management aspects of the project.

      Maintain and manage project plans for all allocated projects.

      Manage all project resources.

      Maintain effective project controls, including change, risk and issue management and communications for all associated work streams.

      Communicate project progress to the Corporate Programme Management Office and governance, in line with agreed project management processes.

      Ensure the identification, escalation and mitigation of project risks/ issues as required.

      Ensure the project remains on track to deliver outcomes in line with time, cost and quality constraints.

      Establish and manage the co-ordination of specified project meetings.

      Attend Digital First team meetings, contributing to the overall development of HCT’s strategic objectives.

      Actively influence, motivate, develop and support key stakeholders.

  • Give an example of a time you had to quickly understand a complex technical or digital issue in a project. How did you absorb the information, what was challenging about it, and how did you communicate it to different stakeholder groups?
  • Provide an example of a digital project report or written artefact you produced that had a measurable impact. What decisions or actions did it influence, and why was your communication approach effective?

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Describe a technology‑led innovation project you delivered. What problem were you trying to solve, what approach did you take, and what impact did the innovation have on service users or staff?
  • Tell us about a time you applied a digital delivery or change management methodology in practice (e.g., Agile, Lean, PRINCE2). What was the context, why did you choose that approach, and what did you learn?
  • From your experience within the NHS or public sector, describe a complex digital project you were responsible for. What environmental or organisational factors influenced the project, and how did you address them?
  • Extensive knowledge of NHS digital platforms and workflows, combined with practical experience in leading continuous improvement and service redesign initiatives.

Qualifications and Training

  • Educated to Masters Degree level in relevant qualification or demonstrates equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Reflect on how your education or career experience has equipped you for this role. Which specific modules, roles, or responsibilities have most shaped your capability to lead digital programmes, and why?
  • Project Management qualification e.g. PRINCE2 - Tell us about a situation where your project management qualification directly influenced the way you planned, led, or delivered a project. What would have been different if you had not used that structured approach?
