An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist in the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team in Welwyn Garden City.  This is a pure Occupational Therapy role within the Crisis Team. 

This post is suited to an Occupational Therapist who enjoys the challenge of a faced-paced setting, where positive therapy outcomes are quickly seen. Occupational Therapy is an essential part of the treatment options available within the Crisis Service, which supports individuals during the acute phrase of mental ill health.

The role involves individual Occupational Therapy Treatment,  and there is scope for group work. Settings include the Crisis Teams base, the local crisis therapy unit, service users' homes, and their local community. Therefore, access to a vehicle is essential. The post holder will receive support from the Head Occupational Therapist.

  • Band 5s interested in a Band 5 to 6 development post - expected time to complete competencies and become a Band 6 will be approximately 6-12 months after starting the new role. Following successful achievement of meeting competencies, the salary will be reviewed, and the pay band confirmed at Band 6 pay step 1

Main duties of the job

Provide OT expertise within the East Crisis Multidisciplinary Team, including OT assessment, individual and potentially group work intervention in a variety of settings.

Duties

·        Manage a caseload with complex OT needs, using evidence based/client-centred principles to assess, plan. implement and evaluate interventions.

·        Provide leadership for junior staff, through supervision and appraisal.

·        Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of OT services.

·        Regularly supervise OT students on practice placement.

·        Maintain records.

 

Clinical Responsibilities

·        Complete OT assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the service user in areas of self-care, productivity and leisure.

·        Use a problem-solving approach to reduce risk as home.

·        Work with service users to identify OT goals as part of the care plan.

·        Plan and implement individual interventions, in collaboration with the service user, using graded activity to achieve goals.

·        Apply a broad level of understanding of the effect of disability and recommend adaptations to the service users physical and social environment.

Monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for service users with multiple needs

·        To review and reflect on personal practice and performance through effective use of professional and operational supervision and appraisal.

·        To exercise good personal time management, punctuality and consistently reliable attendance.

·        To co-ordinate day-to-day activities of junior staff where applicable.

·        To demonstrate basic leadership skills through the management of designated projects.

·        To participate in the induction, training and education of students and other staff in this setting as appropriate.

·        To participate in supervision of junior staff as appropriate.
