Senior Specialist Immunisation Practitioner

Job overview

Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (HCT) provides community-based healthcare services in the East of England with a value driven approach that is innovative, caring and agile.  

The role is to lead the immunisation team based at Witham, to deliver the commissioned vaccination programmes in schools and community settings.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the local immunisation team, being responsible for the co-ordination of the service and working with colleagues to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective Community and School Age programme. 
  • To work collaboratively with external partners and the child health teams in the planning and delivery of immunisation programmes in schools and community settings in order to achieve the KPIs across the programme. 
  • To work with local statutory, private and voluntary providers and users to develop and promote practice that is accessible and responsive to all sections of the local community, ensuring that services are targeted to the most vulnerable groups and individuals to support social inclusion. 
  • To work to Patient Group Directions, Patient Specific Directions and Immunisation Standard Operation Procedures to organise and manage the Community and School age Immunisation Programmes.  
  • To act as a lead within the team to improve uptake of the immunisation programmes within the local population. To carry out immunisations in a variety of venues which may include schools, community clinics and homes.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse or Midwife
  • Hold a full UK driving license and have access to a car to business use
  • Evidence of post registration continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Degree in Public Health or equivalent
  • Experience of supervising and motivating a team
  • In-depth knowledge of current local and national policies informing immunisation and public health
  • Demonstrable post registration experience in a related area
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills
  • Competent in use of SystmOne and immunisation recording systems eg. MAVIS/RAVS
