Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Your Contribution:

 

·         Provide comprehensive inpatient medical services for elderly patients.

·         Take responsibility for the diagnosis and treatment of elderly patients.

·         Undertake a weekly outpatient clinic (with potential for a rapid access clinic).

·         Participate in a 1:11 Consultant general medical on-call rota (weekday advice/call-in 22:00-08:00).

·         Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Membership with the relevant Royal College for Physicians.
  • GMC registration and license to practice.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Geriatrics and general medicine via a. CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), b. CESR or (c) European Community rights
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree e.g MD, PhD, Masters in other subjects (Education leadership)

Experience and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Should have completed a recognised training programme in General Internal Medicine.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a hight level of clinical experience and competence in GIM
  • Knowledge of current trends in speciality.
  • IT skills.

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, post-graduates and junior medical staff.

Audit and Research

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit relevant to specialty.
Desirable criteria
  • Published audits.

Motivation

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to the development of a high quality cost effective service to.

Management

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of current NHS issues.
  • Ability to develop services.
