Job overview
Are you a motivated and compassionate nurse looking for a new challenge? We’re inviting applications for a Fixed-Term Band 5 Staff Nurse position to cover maternity leave on our dynamic 10-bedded surgical ward.
Mottistone ward primarily cares for elective surgical patients, but we also provide excellent care to non-elective cases when needed. Each patient is in a side room, allowing for individualized care and infection control. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in a fast-paced environment and gain exposure to a diverse range of surgical specialities

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Patient Care & Safety:
Provide safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing care to patients before and after elective surgery, including monitoring vital signs, managing pain, and supporting early mobilisation. -
Pre- and Post-Operative Support:
Prepare patients for surgery in accordance with clinical guidelines. Monitor recovery post-operatively, ensuring early identification and response to any complications. -
Medication Administration:
Safely administer medications, including IV therapies and analgesia, in line with hospital policies and procedures. -
Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, physiotherapists, and discharge teams to ensure coordinated care and timely discharge planning. -
Patient Education & Advocacy:
Educate patients and their families on procedures, recovery expectations, and post-discharge care. Act as an advocate for patients’ needs and concerns. -
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate and timely clinical records, care plans, and risk assessments in compliance with legal and hospital standards. -
Infection Control & Hygiene:
Uphold strict infection prevention practices and maintain a clean, safe clinical environment. -
Professional Development:
Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the ward.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
